Google Adds Support for Import/Export and Paste Special Options

Google Docs now supports the import and export of most pivot tables between Microsoft Excel and Google Spreadsheets and features several new "paste special" options.

Users can import pivot tables created in Excel by clicking File and then selecting import. If you created the file in Google spreadsheets and want to export it, simply download the file as an Excel document.

When you want to copy data from a formatted cell and drop it into a non-formatted cell, you can paste only the values, the formatting or everything except the borders. Or, you can choose to copy just the formula, data validation or the conditional formatting.

Google added the ability to merge cells vertically in spreadsheets yesterday [ see our story ].
