UPDATE: The error that caused the video content site YouTube to go down appears to have been corrected and the site is back up and running, though there is no word yet on the cause of the outage.
Based on the time that YouTube first alerted users of the outage and the time it announced it had addressed the issue it appears the site was down for about 30 minutes.
At the time of the outage, the YouTube homepage would load but if you attempted to open a video you received an error message that said "502. That's an error. The service encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request. Please try again in 30 seconds. That's all we know."
A YouTube spokesperson declined to comment on details of the outage, but said that the company is currently looking into the matter.
