Yelp, the user-generated review site that boasted more than 53M unique visitors per month in June, has launched in its eighth European country, Italy.
The Italian Yelp site, Yelp. It, is available as an iPhone and Android application which can be viewed in English and Italian, and the website supports English, French, Dutch and Spanish so that tourists can access reviews while visiting Italy. The San-Francisco-based company is focused on Rome and Milan, but users can review businesses anywhere in the country.
In Italy, Yelp will compete with Qype, the largest European user review site, which was founded in Hamburg, Germany in 2006. Qype is in UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and Austria. Qype had 22M visitors per month as of April.
LAUNCH has contacted both Yelp and Qype about the Italian launch.
Yelp launched in Europe with Yelp U.K. in January 2009 and has since expanded to Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Spain.
