Hacker group The Script Kiddies hacked into the NBC News Twitter account and tweeted false reports that a suspected hijacker crashed an airplane into Ground Zero in New York this afternoon.
"We are working with Twitter to correct the situation and sincerely apologize for the scare that could have been caused by such a reckless and irresponsible act," NBC News said in a statement.
Hundreds of Twitter users retweeted the posts from @NBCNews, which has 130K+ followers. Twitter has since suspended the @s_kiddies account. Twitter also temporarily suspended @NBCNews but the feed is back up.
The Script Kiddies is the same group that hacked @foxnewspolitics in July and falsely reported that President Barack Obama had been shot dead while campaigning in Iowa.
