Evernote just released an update for the iPhone and iPad that adds functionality with iOS5 and the ability to make checkboxes.

The checkboxes eliminate the need for Evernote's 14.5M users to switch from Evernote to another app in order to create lists for groceries and to-do lists.

"Woot! Thank you!" Ann P. writes. "Now I can quit using 3 or 4 different apps for checklists & grocery shopping! Thanks for the improvements!"

The update also features improved formatting for simplified text and better font handling, so that the font remains correct on all your devices.

Evernote's last update for iOS added support for rich text, shared notebooks and more. See our story here. More than 9M+ users have downloaded Evernote for iOS.

Considering that Apple announced today its plans to release iOS 5 on October 12th, the blog states that new functionality and improvements are to come for the new operating system. See our coverage here of the "Let's Talk iPhone" event to learn more about iOS 5.

"We're working on Skitch integration/iOS app now," PR Professional Iz Conroy at LaunchSquad, the company that handles Evernote's PR, tells LAUNCH via email.

Silicon Valley-based Evernote was founded in 2007 by Phil Libin. The company has received $95M+ in funding from investors including Sequoia Capital, DoCoMo Capital and Troika Dialog.
