Sharing on Facebook and Twitter drives the price of original art down. Why would artists from Indonesia and Ecuador give away their work on Montreal-based Art Sumo? We're guessing because they get 400 people to share their work with their thousands of followers who, perhaps, will buy other items they have for sale.

This feels like the love child of Beezid and Groupon -- and we love it!

Founder Naysawn Naderi, an engineer who fled Microsoft, was inspired partly by a deal he had with his mother from his student days: she would give time a plane ticket to an exotic place and he'd bring back a painting from that country. As Naysawn explains, he also wanted to help artists like the one he met in New Delhi, a man whose work wasn't selling well locally but Naysawn knew would sell well (and at an affordable price) back home.

So far, most paintings have sold for between $200 and $250, with two paintings by Tran Minh Thahn of Vietnam seling for $150 (but no tweets or likes).
